We posted him on July 15 on Cobu, the community platform our residents use, and that post is a fair sample of how the feed reads here.
Two things defined the month: a run of short, low-key events people could drop into on the way home, and a busy stretch of neighbors handing things off to each other. July is a heavy moving month in downtown DC, and the feed reflected it, with boxes, packing paper, and furniture changing hands almost daily. The 236 replies matter as much as the 318 posts. When a resident asked for something in July, they usually had an answer the same day.
Eight events ran in July, and the two with the most RSVPs were the simplest. The Sweet Treat Grab 'N Go put mini cupcakes in the lobby on July 23 and collected 26 RSVPs. National Hot Dog Day in the Club Room on July 15 offered beef, turkey, or vegan hot dogs and collected 25 RSVPs.
Food Truck Thursday ran three times in front of the building: A Toda Madre with Mexican food on July 2 (6 RSVPs) and July 9 (5 RSVPs), and Arnis' Kitchen with Indonesian food on July 16. Donation bags for our "Shark Week" tuna drive sat at the concierge desk all month, part of a Move For Hunger collection for a local food bank, and the Baking Club booked an Italian cooking demo and lunch at SAN LORENZO Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar on 9th St NW on July 25. Marketplace had hundreds of comments, and much of it was free rather than for sale: a Nespresso machine bundle, an acoustic guitar with an honest note about its chipped edge, a majesty palm left in the recycling room for anyone with a green thumb, and pantry staples on the last day of the month. One resident who got the wrong Amazon Fresh order gave the extra groceries away and had two takers within a minute.
Neighbors helped each other constantly. A resident who could not find a face mask had one left outside a neighbor's door in a bag, and the person who took it wrote back, "Took one and left the rest for others. Thank you!!"
